SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- Toronto Blue Jays has announced that Ryu Hyun-jin will first pitch for the last day of the 2021 regular season (0ct. 4).

For Toronto, who is struggling to win the AL Wild Card, the final game of the regular season may be their final chance.

Coach Charlie Montoyo revealed the first pitcher rotation for the last game against Baltimore Orioles during an interview with the local medias such as MLB.com Friday (KST).

Steven Matz, Alek Manoah and Ryu will appear on the mound for 2021 MLB three consecutive games against the Baltimore at Rodgers Center, Toronto, Ontario, Canada between 2nd and 4th of October..

Ryu has been selected as the fist pitcher for the last game which will take place at around 4 a.m. of the 4th.

Toronto has been on 4th place for AL Wild Card until Sep. 30.

Wild Cards are given to two teams. Toronto has fallen behind by 2 games to the 1st place runner New York Yankees, by 1 game to the 2nd place runner Boston Redsox and by 0.5 game to the 3rd placer Seattle Mariners.

If the winner of the AL Wild Card is not decided by Oct. 3, Ryu will appear against the Baltimore on the 4th considering the game as ‘technically a post season.’
The lefthander played in 30 games for the season and recorded 13 wins, 4 losses and 4.39 ERA. He had to suffer an early kick-out from the mound even before filling five pitches for recent three consecutive games.

During the five games against the Baltimore for the season he recorded 3 wins and 1 loss raising his ERA to 5.40. For the first three games he led the team to victory but on Sep. 1 he became a losing pitcher allowing 3 hits and 3 runs for 5⅔ innings and on Sep. 12 he managed to avoid a loss but broke down recording 8 hits and 7 runs for 2⅓ innings.

If Ryu gathers himself to win against the Baltimore, he will be able to finish the season tying for the most wins of the season, 14.
