SEOUL, Apr. 28 (Yonhap) -- The Wonju Hanji Festival, which was selected as the "2020-2022 Gangwondo Excellent Festival," will be held in Wonju Hanji Theme Park from the 5th to the 15th of next month.
The theme of the 24th Hanji Cultural Festival this year is "A Thousand Lights, Forest of Paper."
The festival will be held both online and offline for the youth creation programs and the exhibition for the excellent works from the Korea Hanji Festival.
By opening the Hanji World on ZEPETO, the metaverse platform, a new type of festival program where one can enjoy artworks and participate in events in a virtual space will be newly operated.
As much as it is the first local festival since the social distancing measures in South Korea has been lifted in two years due to COVID-19, the expectations are high.
The city will take the first step towards restoring daily life with citizens by preparing various face-to-face events including the weekend market operation, Hanji craft experience, field events and busking performances.
Additionally, the Chiaksan Korean Beef and Korean Pork grilling festival will be held for three days from the 5th till the 7th of next month at the outdoor parking lot of the Wonju Korea Federation of Livestock Cooperatives.
Organized by the Wonju Korea Federation of Livestock Cooperatives and sponsored by Wonju city, this festival was promoted to reduce the burden of consumers on the price of Korean beef and pork.
Chiaksan Korean beef will be sold at a 10-15% discount and the by-products will have a 50% discount. The Chiaksan Korean pork will be 20% cheaper.
"Starting with the Hanji Cultural Festival, it is expected that various festivals will go back to the way it was," an official from the city said. "I hope that many citizens and tourists will participate."
