SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) – A fairytale land has come to the Danggol Square, the entrance to Taebaeksan Mountain.
An array of snow sculptures that will be standing in the upcoming 30th Taebaeksan Snow Festival, which will be held on Friday, is standing in every nook and cranny of the Taebaeksan Mountain version of the fairytale land.
The large snow sculpture exhibition is one of the attractive events representing the Taebaeksan Snow Festival -- hundreds of snow sculptures of various sizes and shapes have been introduced in the Festival by numerous renowned domestic and international artists.
Large snow sculptures of figures that represent the times, including King Kong in 2006, Gwanghwamun in 2009, and Psy in 2013, have particularly been popular.
Numerous works, placed around the Danggol Square in Taebaeksan National Park, will also be meeting visitors this year. The sculptures that have been crafted under the theme of “Wonderland in Taebaksan” will be standing all across the Square, including the sculptures of Mickey Mouse, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Cinderella’s Pumpkin Wagon.
The “Wonderland Castle," a 21 meters long, 5 meters high, and 5 meters wide sculpture, will be greeting the visitors of the Wonderland at the entrance of the Taebaek Village.
The largest snow sculpture will be the “Animated Kingdom,” a collection of main characters of popular animated films, ranging from Lion King to Shrek and the Minions. The 40-meter-long, 7-meter-high, 6-meter-wide Kingdom will be full of creativity and joy.
The rabbit from “The Tales of Zara,” a Koraen folk story, will also be appearing in the Wonderland in celebration of the Year of the Black Rabbit.
Multiple artworks from the National University Student Snow Sculpture Competition, including the sculptures of Hwang Jin-i – the Taebaek’s fairy –, “Manghyung Jiwo” – the reinterpretation of the myth of Dangun —, and “Hello Taebaek,” will also be on display.
An official from the Taebaek Cultural Foundation said on Thursday, “We invite everyone to the ice-white Wonderland in Taebaeksan presented by the Taebaek Village.”
