SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- The box-office success of Japanese animated film "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" has sparked a sales boom in bookstores.
Online retailer Yes24 said on Thursday, the sales of the "Demon Slayer" manga series between Aug. 22 and 31 soared 508.1 percent compared with the previous 10-day period.
Volumes 16 to 23, which cover the storyline of "Infinity Castle," all ranked in the top 30 of Yes24’s bestseller list in the fourth week of August, with volume 20 placing highest at No. 16.
By age group, readers in their 40s accounted for 30.8 percent of sales, followed by those in their 20s (20.7 pct), 30s (18.3 pct) and 50s (16.6 pct). Women made up 61.2 percent of buyers.
Yes24 attributed the popularity among women to the manga’s engaging story, accessible anime adaptation and strong female characters. Sales of related merchandise such as fan books, coloring books and art collections also jumped 313 percent after the film’s release.
