Ahn Jung-geun's calligraphy returns from Japan

This photo, released by the Gyeonggi provincial government on Dec. 17, 2025, shows calligraphy written by Korean independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun prior to his execution by Japan and repatriated from a Japanese collector. The calligraphic writing has seven Chinese characters meaning "With a deep sigh, I mourn Japan's demise in advance." The independence fighter during Japanese colonial rule of Korea was executed at a prison in China by Japanese authorities after being arrested in 1909 for assassinating Ito Hirobumi, the Japanese resident-general in Korea, at a railway station in Harbin, a city in China's Heilongjiang province.
