JYP founder named co-chair of presidential pop culture committee
SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Yonhap) -- Park Jin-young, founder of the K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment and a successful solo artist himself, was appointed to co-chair a new presidential committee on pop culture, the presidential office said Tuesday.
President Lee Jae Myung named Park to the ministerial-level post, where he will lead the committee on pop-culture exchange together with Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young.
The committee was launched to promote the global spread of Korean pop culture amid growing international interest in Korean music, dramas and games, according to the office.
Turning South Korea into a top cultural powerhouse was a key part of Lee's national vision, dubbed the "K-initiative," which he first unveiled during his presidential campaign.
