SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Yonhap) -- Following two massive quakes in Turkiye, formerly known as Turkey, and Syria which brought major damages in both nations, several South Korean celebrities are springing into action and making donations for those who were impacted by this catastrophe.

Jang Sung-kyu, a television personality who formerly was a news announcer, shared on his social media account that he donated 23 million won to the victims of the earthquakes.

“I hope there will be no more casualties,” he wrote. “I sincerely pray that the damages in both countries will be restored as soon as possible.”

Singer and actor Yang Dong-geun visited the Embassy of Turkiye in South Korea earlier on Wednesday and met Ambassador Murat Tamer to make a donation of 10 million won to help those who were affected.

The singer and actor said, “I was so heartbroken to read the articles and see photos of a Turkish father who nearly lost his mind as he held the hand of his deceased baby,” adding, “As a father myself, I express my deepest condolence to the victims of the Turkey earthquake.”

Kim Jin-woo, a member of the boy band WINNER, also stepped in with a 10-million-won donation to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association as a restoration fund.

Hope Bridge will be transferring the donated funds to the local embassy, local Korean Association, and relief organizations for the sake of those who were affected.

Rapper DinDin also shared on his social media account that he donated 10 million won to the Korean Red Cross. “I hope I can be even a little help, and I sincerely pray that all those who were affected can return to their warm daily lives as soon as possible,” he wrote.
