S. Korea, Australia agree to expand cooperation on supply chains

By Kim Han-joo

SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Australia have agreed to significantly expand cooperation on supply chains for key strategic industries, Seoul's finance ministry said Friday.

The agreement was reached during inaugural talks in Canberra on Friday between Sohn Woong-ki, a senior official from the Ministry of Economy and Finance in charge of economic security and supply chains, and his Australian counterpart, Jocelyn Cooper, the ministry said.

The two sides agreed to hold regular dialogue and share examples to effectively respond to the rapidly changing global supply chain landscape.

In particular, the two countries will develop a mutually beneficial partnership by leveraging their strengths, with a focus on responding to future restructuring of global supply chains, the ministry added.

Earlier, the South Korean government announced a set of measures aimed at stabilizing supply chains in sectors particularly vulnerable to disruptions from ongoing global supply chain realignments and geopolitical uncertainties.
